Yikes…SNAKES!
Okay…so we headed to Shucks for a nice night out. So far so good. Had a dozen of the cleanest oysters I’ve ever eaten, then moved on to some nice seafood. Here’s where the fun begins. About 4 of Abbeville’s finest arrested a guy on a motorcycle right in front of Shucks. Gets better! Pulling in the driveway we were checking out a frog. Didn’t take long to see why the frog was on the move. Under a lawn chair was a snake that was pretty quick on his toes…and so was I. I grabbed my phone and call my neighbor!.. to see if he had a shovel, hoe, rake, gun…but everything was packed away because of hurricane Gustav. My neighbor came over armed with 2 hammers, one in each hand, and of course I was standing on the lawn chair at this point
Snake went under our steps so we started moving things to look for him. That’s when we say his big brother. Yes ANOTHER snake. Fortunately Jonathan knows how to and is not afraid to use a broom handle. WE…uh, Jonathan took them out with a quick blow to the head with the hammers, which technically turned them into “hammer” heads. Yea, I’m laughing now…Did I mention I don’t like snake(s)…
Then…last night I took the CAR to my gig in Lake Charles and still had my gear in the trunk. After the drama, I went to get my gear out of my VAN and noticed it was GONE! STOLEN! TAKEN! VIOLATED! It took me a few minutes to remember that it was safe and secure in the CAR trunk, but not before FREAKING OUT…again. I’m going to bed!
Oysters!
Evan had the ever popular Ice and Crackers for an appetizer!
I swear I didn’t take no oysters!
Yikes…SNAKES!
This Little Piggy Went To Market…
Hurricane Gustav has chased us to St Joseph, La, which is north of Ferriday, La.

This little piggy can’t wait to go wee wee wee…all the way home!

The only way I could pick up a wireless signal. By the way, the “glass” door had to be open.

Recording Gear
Finally got my recording gear in place again. Now maybe I can start making sense of these noises in my head. Well, maybe some of them…
Canon 1000D

With all the DSLR noise going on, the EOS Rebel XS managed to sneak in without too many people noticing. The proper entry-level replacement to the XTi / 400D recently took the time to cave to Camera Labs’ every request, and when all was said and done, critics didn’t find too many negative points to harp on. The all-important image quality ranked very highly, and the built-in live view was obviously a boon. Granted, the fixed screen and 7-point AF system (versus the 9-pointer on the XTi) were slight bummers, but it still managed to secure an 82% (Highly Recommended) rating.
Things I’ve Learned This Week
1. You are welcomed to stay, but the flask and backpack got to go.
2. Drums can make you def.
3. I am loving a new hard drive technology called Drobo.
4. Life isn’t as bad as I think it is sometimes.
5. I love seafood platters because I don’t have to narrow it down to one item. Probably just greedy.
6. I miss my family even when they’re in my presence. Prolly need to explain that one better…

Smell Of Mac
I setup 4 iMac computers today to be used in our adult venues at church. My fingers smell like an aluminum apple.
Moving To New York
NEW YORK — Looking to bring more value-seeking consumers through its doors for a late afternoon caffeine fix, Starbucks Corp. said it will now offer its morning customers any iced grande beverage for $2 after 2 p.m.
The price is a big cut from the normal price of most grande-sized iced drinks. A grande iced latte, for example, costs about $4. To get the discount, customers must present a receipt from their morning Starbucks visit.
The promotion was previously only offered in Seattle, Chicago and Miami. The company said it is taking it nationwide beginning Tuesday to answer consumers’ calls for more value at the chain, which has seen traffic drop as gas prices rise and consumer spending falters. It runs until Sept. 2.
I’ve Got Friends That Do…lyrics
This is for the nobody
The one in the crowd who’s got a
Lost look on his face
This is for the down-trodden
The one that the worlds forgotten
Waitin’ on a better day
Well I’m in no, position to judge ‘em
Heaven knows they’re just like me
(Chorus)
And I’m not alone
In knowing what it’s like
To wonder where you’re going in this crazy life
And I’m not alone, knowing how it feels
To pray to God and sometimes wonder if he’s real
‘Cause I got friends that do
Yeah I got friends that do
This is for the lost junkie
Who spends all his hard earned money
On something that he hates
And this is for the found guilty
Who ain’t getting out until he
Pays his debt to the state
I’m in no, position to judge ‘em
Heaven knows it could have been me
(Chorus)
And I may not know, what it’s like
To lose your job ’cause a habits got you gripped too tight
And I may not know, how it feels
To lay your head down on a prison bed in a world of steel
But I got friends that do
Yeah, I got friends that do
This is for yours truly
Just a little verse to remind me
We all got somewhere to turn
(Chorus)
And I may not know what its like
To send my only son to save the world
And watch him die
And I may not know how it feels
To hang there on the cross
To prove that love is real
But I got friends that do
Yeah I got friends that do
Yeah I got friends that do
We all got friends that do
I’ve Got Friends That Do
I’ve Got Friends That Do
Thank you Kay for sharing this Tim McGraw tune. I can’t stop listening to it. Even Evan keeps saying “again”.
I played a Christmas performance with the acoustic player (red shirt). He’s a sold out believer. Do you think he has a little influence in his Nashville position?
Tamron 15x Zoom Lens For Nikon, Canon
The 15x number may be regularly tossed around these days when it comes to point-and-shoot cameras, but it has been uncharted territory for DSLRs, at least until Tamron’s new ultra zoom lens here made its first appearance yesterday. Apparently the first lens of its kind, the AF18-270MM Di II VC covers the 35mm equivalent range of 28mm to 419mm, and does so with the aid of Tamron’s proprietary tri-axial Vibration Compensation (or VC) mechanism, which promises to eliminate or substantially reduce the effects of camera shake. Unfortunately, while Tamron was understandably keen to show of its handiwork as quickly as possible, it’s not as forthcoming with any word of a price or release date, although it does assure us that the lens will be available in both Canon and Nikon mounts whenever it is actually released.
